Probably the most famous football player in the world has had his dream of appearing in a Hollywood movie denied by the famous director of Goodfellas. The role was originally offered to Ronaldo because the filmmakers wanted to use his Manhattan apartment as a location for Scorsese’s upcoming movie The Manipulator.
The film is another biopic in the vain of The Wolf of Wall Street based on the life of Alessandro Proto, the Italian millionaire who was the inspiration for the character of Christian Grey.
This year Cristiano Ronaldo bought the New York loft apartment that used to belong to Proto and the producers promised to give him a small role if he allows them to film there. However, Martin Scorsese vetoed the footballer’s appearance in the last second fearing that he might take too much of the spotlight.
The Real Madrid star will not remain empty handed though. He was supposed to receive 10 million euros for being ditched at the last minute, but his lawyers have doubled that figure and he is now set to receive 20 million for not appearing in the movie.
Alessandro Proto himself also objected to Ronaldo’s involvement, and even offering to pay him the full compensation himself.
Ronaldo is a great player, but that doesn’t mean he is the king of the world. I don’t want him in a film about my life. Martin Scorsese is in agreement with me. Cristiano Ronaldo is not going to be in the film. I am sorry if he doesn’t feel valued, but in life you win some and you lose some. If I really have to give him 20 million euros, I will give it to him with my own hands.
The movie is set to star Channing Tatum, Alessandra Ambrosio, and George Clooney. What’s not yet clear is the level of Scorsese’s involvement. Namely, some reports claim that he is set to direct the film whereas others say that he will be the producer. Be that as it may, having such a name attached to a project can only be a good sign.
Having in mind that Scorsese is currently finishing his next movie Silence, a story about two Jesuit priests in Japan starring Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver and Liam Neeson, it is hard to predict when The Manipulator might start shooting.
Interestingly, the Oscar winning director has been linked to more projects than Snoop Dogg lately. We’ve recently seen the trailer for Vinyl, the TV show he’s producing with Mick Jagger. Also, we’ve already reported that he is attached to direct The Irishman, with Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Al Pacino.
The Ramones have claimed that he will be involved in the making of their biopic, and so has Mike Tyson, and so have Sinatra’s relatives! That’s not the end of the list though. In addition to being linked to biopics about Sinatra, Tyson, and The Ramones, it has been announced that he will direct The Devil in the White City, with Leonardo DiCaprio! Wow! We know you are a movie making genius Martin but get a rest!
So many movies and he won’t let Ronaldo appear in any of them! That’s just cruel! Or, not! Anyway, run to the comment section and let us know what you think about this.
