The new trailer for Star Wars has arrived, and it’s spectacular! Seeing the dogfight between Chewie and Han Solo in the Millennium Falcon, and Empire’s TIE fighters really does feel like going back to the original trilogy! Even Princess Leia’s there! But wait! Hold on a second! Where the hell’s Luke Skywalker?
I mean he’s only the friggin main character of the original movies! He’s Darth Vader’s son for Pete’s sake! Where is he?
We know that Mark Hamill, the actor who played the legendary Jedi, is credited in the movie, and JJ Abrams has said that Luke is going to return in this installment, so how come he is neither in the trailer nor on the latest poster? Even Darth Vader’s helmet is there.
We’re guessing that this is some kind of marketing strategy and they just want to build up suspense and anticipation before finally revealing Luke in the final pre release trailer. It will be the cherry on top, no doubt!
For 35 years, fans of Star Wars worldwide have been wondering about Skywalker’s destiny. Is he the new Yoda? Or Obi-Wan? All of those questions are set to be answered on December 15, 2015.
All things considered, the trailer looks exciting and really grounded in the Star Wars folklore, and real history. It is widely known that some of the shots of Darth Vader and his army were inspired by Leni Riefenstahl’s Triumph of the Will, so it is nice to see the same influences making their way into the new trilogy. The rallies of Empire’s forces in the trailer are very reminiscent of Nazi rallies in Triumph of the Will.
One major worry that we have is this film taking itself too seriously! Like Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. That would be huge stylistic departure from the original Star Wars.
In addition to all of the famous characters the movie is teeming with new ones who seem just as loveable. John Boyega, a very talented young British actor from Peckham, is set to star as Finn. Also staring Inside Llewyn Davis star Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis (Gollum), Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, Daisy Ridley, Domhnall Gleeson, Adam Driver and the legendary Max von Sydow. What a cast!
